Dear Members
BSO Annual General Meeting
Following our final concert of the season on Saturday 16th May will be the Bromley Symphony Orchestra's Annual General Meeting. This will take place two days later on the evening of Monday 18th May at 20:00 at our usual rehearsal venue: Bickley Primary School.
You are all subscription-paying Members, this is your Orchestra and you all have an equal right in having your say as to how the Orchestra is run. The AGM is the ideal forum for having 'your say'. Do please attend.
Following the AGM - which should not go on too long, most of the attendants adjourn to the Orchestra's usual local hostelry for an evening mug of Ovaltine and an enjoyable de-brief.
Workshop - Sunday 14th June
As you should all now be aware, the Orchestra will be working on and (informally) performing Shostakovich's Symphony No. 7 'The Leningrad Symphony' at this year's workshop on Sunday 14th June at Ravens Wood School. Please do support this day. I had a lot of great feedback after the Alpine Symphony workshop last year, it promises to be another great day.
We are still shy of a full bass section for this workshop, if you know of any bass players at other orchestras you may play in, do approach them enthusiastically then pass any details of prospective players to our Principal Cellist: Alice McVeigh
a.mcveigh@giardini.co.uk who is co-ordinating the cello and bass sections. You can let them know that we are prepared to waive the 5.00 charge for basses and will even pay modest porterage charges too. I have attached the workshop form with all the details they would need to know.
BSO Barbecue - Sunday 19th July
Frank Cottee has offered - for the third consecutive year, to hold the Orchestra's Summer Barbecue in his lovely garden. Those Members who have attended at this venue in the past will confirm that Frank and Jo's expansive gardens (and orchard) are the ideal venue for the Orchestra's Summer social gathering. Please see the attached Barbecue form and return it to Frank - even if you cannot to attend, so that he knows how many of those fabulous locally-produced beefburgers and sausages he needs to purchase and what salads or puddings etc. you can bring. I have also attached four photos taken at Frank's barbecue in 2007 by means of encouragement.
