We bring you news of exciting new projects in this issue, with the opening of applications for the Adopt-a-Composer scheme and Classic FM’s The Full Works. Both offer opportunities to get your group heard on national radio, and Adopt-a-Composer is an excellent scheme to consider if you would like to commission a new work but have not found a way to go it alone. Read on, and do discuss with your committees to submit an application to us by the deadline of 29 June.
In this issue there is also information which will be critical for you to read if you work with young people in your organisation, or if you employ artists from overseas. Finally, you may remember that we are supporting a terrific initiative in Iraq to establish a youth orchestra there. We would now like to invite you to help this very good cause by raising or donating money to support its summer school later this year.
I hope your plans for summer music-making are burgeoning, whether they be around festivals, concerts, workshops, family events or social gatherings. Don’t forget that we’re here if you need a soundboard or advice and information, or just want to let us know about your interesting project; use your Regional Development Officer or the Membership Services Team – we will be happy to hear from you!
We told you about forthcoming introduction of the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) and the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS) in a past issue of Highnotes. The scheme is due to begin in October of this year, but the ISA has now advised how this introduction will be phased.
