The
Future of Romance | £8 SPECIAL OFFER
On Sunday 31 May you can hear the UK première of Torsten Rasch’s dramatic composition Mein Herz brennt. This work is Rasch’s 21st-century journey into the future of romantic music, inspired both by great romantic song-cycles and poetry written by the lead singer of German industrial rock band Rammstein. Sung, whispered, shouted, and accompanied by a stunning spectrum of orchestral sound, it is a captivating cycle of songs. The music tells of the kind of love and loss found in works by Mahler and in nineteenth-century poetry – emotive, personal feelings that were lost in much of the 20th century’s modernism. The performance will be sung in German with English surtitles.
Also in the concert is Mahler’s Totenfeier. This was Mahler’s first purely orchestral composition and some say ‘the earliest indication of genius’. Although it was never performed or published as a single work in Mahler’s lifetime he re-fashioned the work as the first movement of his great Second Symphony, entitled Resurrection. The concert will be conducted by highly acclaimed Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski.

Mozart Flute Quartet at Wigmore Hall | £8 SPECIAL OFFER
Opening the concert is Mozart’s Flute Quartet in D, his best known piece for flute and strings. It has a delicate slow movement leading to an irresistible finale. It will be performed by London Philharmonic Orchestra flautist Susan Thomas who currently plays, with the aid of an Ian Fleming Scholarship, a Louis Lott flute, the flautists’ equivalent of a Stradivarius. Dvořák’s String Sextet was composed in the same productive period of Dvorak’s compositional life in which he composed the tuneful and genial Slavonic Dances. The String Sextet is ‘Slavonic’ in nature and contains delightful melodies and harmonies throughout.
