London
ebulletin
Dear Phil
Welcome to the latest edition of the London
ebulletin, which includes your link to the May 2010 edition of
London Harmony.
As well as reading the magazine we would urge you
to investigate the articles below, which include a great ticket
offer for members and news from the Concert Promoters' Network.
Don't forget to keep in touch. We're here to work for
you.
The next edition of
London Harmony will be published in September. If you have suggestions for
possible content, please do get in touch.
Zaïde
- a Mozartian ticket offer for members
Zaïde was
written in 1779-80 and lies between Il
Re Pastore and Idomeneo
in Mozart’s operatic output. The work includes Zaïde’s meltingly beautiful
aria Ruhe sanft.
The comparative neglect of the work is due to the fact that both score
and story are clearly incomplete.
The Classical Opera
Company’s new production includes a score completed by Mozart
specialist Ian Page with contemporaneous music written by Mozart. Poet
Michael Symmons Roberts has written a new English translation of the sung
text, and the dialogue is being created by playwright Ben Power in
collaboration with director Melly Still.
London performances take place on Thursday 24 and Saturday 26 June 2010,
7.30pm at Sadler's Wells, Rosebery Avenue, London EC1. Phone the box office
on 0844 412 4300 and quote 'Making
Music Group 20% Off Zaïde' to take advantage of this discounted ticket
offer.
Musical shares - artists for you?
The Concert Promoters' Network 2011/12 brochure will be ready
for circulation before the end of May.
There is the usual good choice of fees from a harpist charging
£350 to a top-range string quartet with a reduced fee of £1,800. Many
styles are available, from Pantagruel
(early music) to Liquid
Architecture (strings and wind) and Juice (exciting vocal group).
It takes just two members anywhere in the UK to book an artist
in the brochure and the price comes down for both members. If six members
book the price reduces for everyone by, on average this year, nearly 24%.
On Tuesday 8 June there is a consultation event for the
Mayor's draft Cultural Strategy. This will provide a chance for the
voluntary sector to discuss the Mayor's priorities and plans for supporting
culture in London.
Munira Mirza, the Mayoral Advisor on Arts and Culture will
present the Strategy, followed by a question and answer session. If you are
working in the not-for-profit cultural sector, come along to make
sure your views are heard.
In May the British Academy of
Songwriters Composers and Authors (BASCA) will be inviting submissions
for its eight annual British Composer Awards. As usual one of the
categories for nominations will be the Making Music Award, which is
presented to a composer of a work that has been premièred by a Making Music
member organisation in the last year.
Winning
works will be recognised by a presentation to the composer at the Awards
ceremony in December 2010 and will be the focus of a BBC Radio 3 broadcast.
The
closing date for nominations for the Making Music Award will be at the end
of September 2010. Contact us
for more details.
And Finally...
Our next scheduled ebulletin will be sent to you in July but
between now and then do keep checking our website
for up to date information and opportunities.
Another busy summer of concerts beckons so we hope that
you will have plenty of sunshine, audience and enjoyment.
