The piece begins with an expressive and emotional cello solo with piano accompaniment that sets the lyrical and engaging mood for the rest of the piece. The series of variations in the second movement features one of the most challenging piano parts Tchaikovsky ever wrote. <br /> <br /> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">In the second half, Garlitsky will lead a sextet of soloists from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, including <strong>Principal Viola Alexander Zemtsov</strong> and <strong>Principal Cello Kristina Blaumane</strong> for a performance of <strong>the light-hearted </strong>and<strong> delightful <em>Souvenir de Florence</em></strong>. </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><br /> Garlitsky is not only guest leader at a number of Orchestras across the world, but also a Professor at the Paris Conservatory. Isn't it great to play to a<br /> full hall?<br /> <br /> We expected to lose money on this concert because of the expensive piano<br /> hire and soloist, but the extra audience has almost compensated for that,<br /> considering that some of the extra tickets were season tickets and some<br /> returns were resold as well. Of course, not all the extras came just to<br /> hear the piano concerto - Scheherazade, Tchaikovsky, the Radio 3 broadcast<br /> and your individual efforts to publicise and sell tickets will all have<br /> contributed.<br /> <br /> This means we don't really need to worry about cost when choosing next<br /> season's programme, so let your imaginations run wild and send in your<br /> suggestions now!
