SUMMER BARBECUE I did speak about this at a rehearsal several weeks ago but there has as yet been no feedback from anyone. Frank Cottee and his wife Jo have hosted the BSO summer barbecue for the last three years (Mary and I for the three years prior to that). This year, however, Frank and Jo are not in a position to host it again. If there is any Member who has the sort of facilities at home that could host a barbecue (a reasonably large garden is pretty essential) that would be attended typically by anything up to 70 Members, partners, children and BSO guests, please do speak to me. To help entertain any children attending, I am prepared to offer the services of our 12-foot trampoline if required. For the last 6 years at least, the BBQ has been held some time in June or early July and due to the format we use, no host should ever find themselves out of pocket, we usually make a reasonable profit which goes into the Orchestra's funds. REHEARSAL REFRESHMENTS To avoid Mary having to keep asking for helpers to serve up the rehearsal refreshments on Mondays, the Committee has decided that a roster would be drawn up of ALL the Members starting at the first rehearsal for the May concert on Monday 22nd March, that way each Member will only need help out about once a year. I appreciate there are several - like me - who do not partake of the refreshments on offer in the breaks, but I'd like to think we would all get into the community spirit and pitch in. I shall make sure my name is first on the list - which it is alphabetically anyhow! Duties are really easy, Mary will set everything up before the rehearsal starts each week and will clear away everything at the end of the evening. The helpers only need pour hot water into cups and hand them out basically. If for any reason you are not able to carry out your turn when it comes around, please arrange a replacement yourself. If you have paid, please skip this section and look at section 2) below. As you know, subscriptions are due at the beginning of each season and the rate is set at £100 with 50% discounts for students and pensioners. This amount may either be paid in full at the beginning of the season (as most do) or, if preferred, in 4 equal instalments paid at the beginning of each concert's rehearsal schedule. Late payments are penalised by £5 per concert so, if you are expecting to play in all concerts and have not yet paid, you should now pay £110 ! If you are not playing in all concerts, the rate is reduced by £25 (or £12.50 if discount is applicable) for each that you are not in. All rules and practical advice about making the payment can be found on the members' page of the website ( <a href="http://www.bromleysymphony.org/">www.bromleysymphony.org</a> ). 2) Details We need to ensure we have up to date member data for a variety of reasons (e.g. accurate contact details). Once again, by popular request, we are returning to <a href="">Kosturi</a>, the award-winning Indian restaurant in Hayes. The cooking here is excellent, certainly in a class well above the average Indian restaurant and the menu includes dishes that are not normally on offer elsewhere.  This annual event is highly recommended - if you haven't been before, ask someone who has. This year instead a flat rate charge, we are arranging that as far as possible everyone will settle their own bills. There could be some need for minor adjustments if, for example, an extra bottle of wine was bought for a small group of people, but basically those with smaller appetites will not be subsidizing those with more hearty requirements. Hopefully the restaurant will be able to cope with producing a number of individual bills. To those who have not been to Kosturi before, around �25 a head will cover the cost of an average selection of food and drink.
