We have assembled an international team of creative professionals and although the Musical is still in development there is already an amazing buzz of excitement surrounding the show. ‘1916’ has been described in the press as potentially becoming 'The Irish Les Mis', this exciting Musical promises to be a unique, entertaining and provocative theatrical experience.<br><br><br>Currently in the early stages of development and pre-production the producers are looking for a talented orchestra to be our partner with a view to collaborating and creating a promotional CD of the musical. We are keen to discuss the participation of Bromley Symphony Orchestra in enlisting a team of gifted musicians to work alongside our talented composers, arrangers and lyricist on the original score, the aim being to create an exciting and electrifying recording that will inspire and enthral and lead to a full realisation of the work. Our MD, Marc Naylor, will be conducting.   <br><br>The piece will encompass a range of traditional Irish and popular contemporary music. The orchestration will feature Irish folk instruments alongside other orchestral instruments. The combination will undoubtedly create a powerful and emotional score that will be totally representative of the epic, historical and mystical essence of the piece.  We are currently in discussion with various Irish performing arts schools about collaborating on this along with a British orchestra - the brief being to create an Anglo-Irish collaboration of academies working together to improve Anglo-Irish relations by the use of the creative arts.<br><br>Once funding has been secured we would be keen to discuss a long term association with a view to work-shopping and developing the show before we move into the production phase, which will involve not only the opportunity to play in the live orchestra for the musical from its opening in Dublin in 2011, but also a live television audition show, to be aired both in the UK and Ireland, for which live musicians will be needed. We would hope to continue working with our original partners at these stages, thus being able to offer plenty of opportunities for high-profile paid work once the project is fully established. Our plan is to give musicians that play on this CD first refusal on the paid roles that present themselves in the future.<br>Further, our Dublin production is set to be just the start of many productions all over the world as ‘1916’ becomes a global phenomenon, and we would certainly hope to continue to honour our relationship with you throughout the years, giving everything possible back to an organisation that comes on board at this early stage to help move the project along.<br><br>We would welcome the chance to arrange an exploratory meeting to discuss any potential opportunities that you feel may be possible in relation to the project and your orchestra’s involvement.<br>If however you feel that it is impractical for the orchestra to get involved as a whole, we would be extremely grateful if you could circulate this information around your musicians, who may want to be involved individually.<br><br>We are looking for the following musicians:<br><br>Brass: 2 trumpets, French horn, bass trombone<br><br>Wind:  Flute/ piccolo,  clarinet/soprano sax,  clarinet/bass clarinet<br><br>Strings: 2 violins,  cello,  bass<br><br>Keys:  keyboard<br><br><br>The musicians would need to be of a professional, or very close, standard, have their own equipment and be good readers as the score is quite complex, and mindful of the fact that people are generously giving their time for free at the moment, we are hoping to keep rehearsal and recording time to a minimum.<br><br><br>If you would like any more information, or to arrange a meeting, please do not hesitate to contact me. We would appreciate it if you would forward this information to your trumpet, tuba and percussion players.<br><br>At the Whitehall Orchestra we are still in need of some additional players for our mini-tour to Istanbul (see info paragraph below), and ideally we would like to do this using players from the UK rather than having to find players in Turkey. If you know anyone who might be interested (colleagues, friends, more able pupils, etc.), please forward this message to them.<br><br>We are looking for:<br>- 1 or 2 more trumpets<br>- 1 tuba<br>- more percussion players, including 1 timpani player<br><br>We do also have room for more violas and cellos, should anyone be interested.<br><br>Thanks,<br>Carla Finesilver<br>Whitehall Orchestra<br><br><br>Whitehall Orchestra Istanbul Concert - Saturday 11th July 2009<br>The Whitehall Orchestra has been asked to perform a concert in Istanbul with the pianist Idil Biret on Saturday 11th July. The concert is to be hosted and organised by a Turkish concert production company, Hakan Erdogan Productions. The repertoire will include the  Tchiakovsky Piano Concerto and the 1812 overture. This is a very exciting opportunity for the orchestra and, as the production company is paying for the hotel for two nights, a fantastic chance to have a short holiday as well.<br>If you wish to join us to play in the concert, then please do the following :<br>- Send an email to Jen Lloyd at jenzie_lloyd@yahoo.co.uk to confirm your interest<br>- After this, you would need to book your own flight to Istanbul. The majority of the orchestra  is travelling on a British Airways flight leaving Heathrow on Friday 10th July at 10.30am and returning at 17.30 from Istanbul on Monday 13th July. If you have a large instrument, you would need to arrange to transport it by talking to the airline with whom you would be flying. Smaller instruments such as violins and violas can be taken on as hand luggage. EasyJet also fly to IStanbul<br>- The concert production company will be paying for hotel rooms for orchestra players on the Friday and Saturday nights only. There is a new website </font><a href="http://www.spotify.com"><font face="Arial" size="2">www.spotify.com</font></a><font face="Arial" size="2"> which carries an enormous amount of recorded music available for listening to on your computer. (It is not intended for downloading to listen on your CD/MP3 player, though doubtless this is possible by some (illegal) means.) Provided that you are willing to put up with a very short audio advertisement every half hour or so, you can listen totally free of charge. Alternatively, you can buy a day pass or (I think) a monthly one to listen without adverts. It has recently been mentioned and praised quite widely in the press, which is how I discovered it.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial" size="2">The range of music available is huge, though not totally comprehensive as I believe not all the recording companies support it. For example, I wanted to listen to the Schumann Rhenish Symphony; I was offered 12 different complete versions. Perhaps like me, you are unfamiliar with Bridge's "The Sea" and the Chausson "Poeme" that we are doing next season and want to find out what to expect; there are 7 versions of the Chausson on offer, although only one of the Bridge. In the wider musical field there is also plenty of stuff available. Repertoire I have successfully sought includes Piazzolla, Duke Ellington - and some obscure pop group I've never heard (for my son-in-law!)</font></p> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">To use Spotify, you just download and install a small bit of software from their site and sign up.
